Tucked away deep in the Gold Coast Hinterland is the Tamborine Mountain Distillery. This is the smallest operating Pot Still Distillery in Australia, but is world renowned in places such as Europe, America, Canada, New Zealand and Asia.
With the perfect combination of rich red volcanic soil and fresh spring water, the abundant fruit of the mountain area is fermented and distilled right onsite. A small Pot Still is even used today to create the wonderful spirit which is the essence and foundation of a range of liqueurs, schnapps, vodka and eaux de vie.
The Tamborine Mountain Distillery is a family business and you even see the children, Sonya & Alex, help Mum and Dad pick fruit, mulch trees, mash worts, cranking up the still, bottling and blending.
The Tamborine Mountain Distillery began when Alla and Michael Ward moved from Tasmania to the Gold Coast Hinterlands and discovered they had too much fruit at their new property. So they decided to open the distillery.
The splendid range of fruit grown on Tamborine Mountain is a wonderful source to produce their Liqueur and Schnapps varieties. The Distillery also receives a vast range of fruit from other growers, which they then turn into smooth schnapps, liqueurs, fruit brandies, gins and vodkas.
Even thought the Tamborine Mountain Distillery is relatively new, they have earned an desirable reputation and have won 15 national and international awards over the last four years; which included a silver and bronze at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Tamborine Mountain Distillery is open between 10am and 3pm, Wednesdays to Saturdays and can be reached within a hour of Surfers Paradise when using our Gold Coast Car hire service.
