Holidaymakers enjoying a coastal morning walk near Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast arrival guide

Your Gold Coast Flight Lands at 8am. Hotel Check-In Is at 2pm. What Now?

Ocean-view breakfast, a coastal wander and lunch in Burleigh—your first holiday morning starts here.

Arrange airport collection

You’ve landed on the Gold Coast. Your suitcase has arrived, your sunglasses are ready, and your hotel room won’t be available until 2pm. That doesn’t mean spending your first six hours in a hotel lobby. If you’re staying in Burleigh, Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise, turn the journey north from Gold Coast Airport into a relaxed introduction to the coast.

Your morning route

Gold Coast Airport → Currumbin → Burleigh Heads → your hotel

Keep the first morning relaxed: breakfast by the beach, a short coastal wander, then lunch before hotel check-in.

8am–9:30am

Land, collect your bags and get organised

Give yourself time for baggage collection and your pre-arranged hire-car pickup. Avoid booking anything with a fixed start time this morning.

Before you leave the airportAsk your hotel whether it can store your luggage before check-in. If you’re stopping along the way, keep bags concealed in the locked boot and take valuables with you.

9:30am–10:30am

Breakfast beside the beach in Currumbin

Make your first stop Currumbin’s beachfront. Choose a café along Pacific Parade, order breakfast and enjoy the feeling of having nowhere urgent to be.

After eating, take a short beachfront wander near Elephant Rock. It’s a distinctive coastal landmark and an easy focus for your first holiday photos. Keep any lookout climb optional—you’ve already had an early start. Explore Elephant Rock ↗

The mood: coffee, sea air and the first proper exhale of the holiday.

10:30am–11am

Head north towards Burleigh

Allow time for the drive and finding a legal parking space. Treat the coastline as the attraction rather than trying to squeeze in several more stops. If breakfast runs late, simply shorten the next walk.

11am–12pm

Get your first Burleigh views

Stretch your legs along the beachfront and settle on the foreshore for a while. Watch the surfers, take photos and enjoy the coastline.

If everyone feels energetic, consider a short walk into Burleigh Head National Park, checking current park alerts first. You don’t need to complete a circuit to make this stop worthwhile. Burleigh Head National Park information ↗

12pm–1pm

Lunch around James Street

Head into Burleigh for a casual lunch. Choose somewhere that suits the group’s appetite and energy rather than making your arrival day revolve around a reservation. Leave a little room for an ice cream or takeaway coffee afterwards.

1pm–2pm

Make your way to the hotel

Continue to your accommodation, allowing for traffic and parking. If you arrive early, ask reception whether your room is ready; otherwise, leave your bags if storage is available.

By check-in, you’ve already enjoyed breakfast by the ocean, explored Burleigh and had your first holiday lunch.

A gentler alternative

Staying in Coolangatta instead?

Keep the morning around Currumbin and Coolangatta rather than driving north and doubling back. The best arrival-day plan is the one that leaves you feeling ready for the rest of the holiday.
