All six tourist parks in the Gold Coast are owned and operated by the Gold Coast City Council.  This provides reassurance that the tourist parks will comply with all the health and safety regulations.  In addition, due to their accountability to Council, the parks will have well sorted out proper management practices and controls in place.

The Council-owned and operated Gold Coast tourist parks are located at:

•    Broadwater – on Gold Coast Highway at Southport fronting The Broadwater and close to Australia Fair. And Surfers Paradise which is just 5KM to the South.
•    Main Beach – (on Main Beach Parade opposite the Main Beach foreshore),
•    Ocean Beach – on Gold Coast Highway between Miami and Nobby Beach,
•    Burleigh Heads – opposite the famous Burleigh Beach
•    Tallebudgera Creek – located on the waterfront of the Tallebudgera Estuary between opposite the Tallebudgera Kirra surf beach and Burleigh Heads National Park, and
•    Kirra Beach – on the Queensland/New South Wales border close to Coolangatta and the world famous Kirra Beach – the training ground for many of Australia’s champion surfers.

Each of the tourist parks has a wide range of amenities and facilities available to all resident holiday-makers.  For example, Broadwater, Tallebudgera, Kirra Beach and Main Breach all have a park swimming pool that is heated in cooler months while the first three also have a children’s playground and boat ramp access.  All parks have free broadband access.

If you are flying to the Gold Coast via Gold Coast Airport, Coolangatta, four of the tourist parks are close by.  Air travelers should check out their fully-equipped, self-contained two-bedroom villas or perhaps, a bed-sitting lodging.  The Tallebudgera Creek Tourist Park, for example, has 19 villas mainly comprising two-bedroom villas (four configurations) plus some three-bedroom villas, too.  Holiday-makers traveling to the region with a caravan, campervan or motor-home would be more interested a powered site – some of which have their own en-suite.

Each of these tourist parks has reserved tent sites. Campers can have powered or un-powered camping sites.  With access to all the facilities and amenities, tourist parks of today are a far more civilized way to have a budget holiday instead of roughing-it.

Camping fees vary according to the season – and there are three seasons and sets of prices.

A basic two-person camp site costs from $198 a week off-peak, to $287 a week in the peak season.  For powered camping sites expect to pay an extra 45% over the off-peak fees. You pay a little more for extra people in the camping party and for more than one vehicle.  Two-day camping bookings are available during the off-peak season but the minimum stay during peak season is one week.   Special mid-season rates apply, too.

Surfers Paradise, once known as Elston and close to an area the native Kombumerri  people called Jarri Parila, was originally settled as a farm land region in 1869 by a gentleman by the name of James Beattie.
