The Gallery of Modern Art has brought to Australia an exhibition of 200 contemporary art works by 50 of the most influential Chinese artists of the past three decades. Called ‘The China Project”, this free exhibition has already opened and runs until 28 June 2009.
The Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival in Brisbane CBD on Sunday 3rd May 2009. Sample sumptuous seafood and local wines while listening to the finest blues and jazz recording artists performing on three stages. Then, party on into the night.
2009 QUT Urban Country Music Festival, a four day festival held at Caboolture, 45 minutes north of Brisbane. Enjoy free events, concerts, markets and the biggest names in Australia’s country music. Includes the ‘Beat Ute’ show, horse displays, whip cracking and bush poetry. Bookings are required for the main concert and some events. 1 May – 4 May 2009
Valley Jazz Festival. Now in its 4th year, the festival is held Fortitude Valley 3 KM from the CBD. Organizers have brought together 250 exciting artists in 52 bands who will be playing at various local venues around between May 12 -17.
We thought two musicals had stand-out appeal.
- Between 30 April and 21st June 2009, enjoy the toe-tapping musical ‘The Buddy Holly Story’ at the Playhouse Theatre, South Brisbane. Remember “That’ll be the Day”, “Peggie Sue” and “Maybe Baby”? It has all your favourite Buddy Holly hits.
- Chicago – The smash-hit musical ‘Chicago” is playing at the QPAC Lyric Theatre, South Brisbane from 29 March until 3 May, 2009.
